POLICE are investigating after the body of a popular 15-year-old boy was found near an Aberystwyth hillside on Saturday morning.
Tributes have poured in for the teenager, who has been named locally as Joel Dibble, from Talybont, a former Penglais School pupil who attended the pupil referral unit in Aberaeron.
Police said they are treating Joel’s death as “unexplained but not suspicious” after his body was found near Pen Dinas, Penparcau, at around 7.30am on Saturday, 8 April.
A police spokesperson said on Saturday: “Dyfed-Powys Police is investigating, after the body of a 15-year-old was discovered near Pen Dinas at around 7.30am this morning.
“Next of kin and HM Coroner have been informed. The death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.
“Anyone with information is asked to call Aberystwyth Police on 101 or anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
The ambulance service was also in attendance.
Tributes have also poured in on social media after a Facebook page, ‘In Loving Memory of Joel’, was set up following the news of his death.
Gordon Allison wrote: “Very sad to hear of the death of someone so young. I hope you raise the amount you need.”
And Lynwen Evans wrote: “My heartfelt sympathy to his family. RIP young lad xx”.
A JustGiving crowdfunding web page, which was launched to help Joel’s family pay for his funeral, has raised more than £400 already.
