Mayor hopes to build on Cardigan's top-12 accolade

CARDIGAN mayor Cllr Clive Davies has welcomed news that the town was the only one in Ceredigion named among the Best Places to Live in Britain by a national newspaper.

Describing Cardigan as “top of the regeneration game”, The Sunday Times judging panel assessed a wide range of factors, from jobs, exam results and broadband speed to culture, community spirit and local shops in order to compile the list.

“This is excellent news,” Cllr Davies told the Cambrian News. “It just shows that with the work carried out recently and planned for within the town what can be achieved.

“Last year Cardigan Town Centre Partnership received special recognition in the Great British High Street awards and now The Sunday Times has judged Cardigan as one of the best places to live in Britain.

“Some of the criteria for judging included community spirit and number and mix of independent shops and traders.

“These have been two strong points I’ve seen in my year as mayor - just look at the turn-out we had at the our first lantern parade last Christmas.

“Hopefully with the plans for 2017-18 underway we’ll attract even more new traders, citizens and visitors.”
